The Buffalo Bills were well represented at the pro-day workout of Oklahoma receiver Malcolm Kelly on Wednesday. They did not see an overwhelming showing.
Kelly, one of the most heralded receivers in the NFL Draft class at the end of the college football season, ran the 40-yard dash in a disappointing time of 4.68 seconds, according to observers at the workout. Click here to see some Kelly highlights.
Bills offensive coordinator Turk Schonert, receivers coach Tyke Tolbert and vice president of college scouting Tom Modrak all were in attendance on the Norman, Okla., campus.
Kelly has ideal size, at 6- foot-4 and 227 pounds, and he had been projected as a pick in the first half of the first round in many draftnik forecasts this spring. That, however, looks high in light of his speed numbers. Michigan State’s Devin Thomas probably projects as the top-rated receiver in the draft.
Kelly said he was not told by the Oklahoma strength staff until Wednesday morning that the location of the pro-day workout had been moved from the school’s Astroturf field to the FieldTurf surface inside the Everest Indoor Training Center.
“I had everything set up for where I wanted to do it at,” Kelly told the Oklahoman newspaper of Oklahoma City. “I get up here this morning and it’s a whole different deal. This is my life. It’s got to do with me and my family. This is what I do, play football, and I’m supposed to run as fast as I can. I was slipping all over the place during my drill work. I can’t say I’m pleased with anything today.”
