I think they have a nice team with plenty of talent. Face made a good point saying that they didn't real beat anyone worth a damn last year.
So what do you think? Are the Browns a playoff team, or are they a middle of the road team?

Yes. I think they're a playoff team for sure this year.
I'll put up $100 saying they won't make the playoffs this year

Nope. I year wonder. Just like the Jets 2 years ago.

If the Browns do make the playoffs the Bills likely won't.
I'm not a believer in Anderson...I think he was very lucky that the guys he's throwing too are amazing....
Furthermore, if the Browns really thought Anderson was the answer, why did Charlie Frey take the starter snaps throughout training camp last year? Why did they give up so much to draft Brady Quinn?
He might come out and tear it up, since he's probably got some improving to do.... but the jury is still out.
Fuurthermore, Jamal Lewis played admirably last year...but can he have another solid season and stay healthy? Another ? for sure.
Thier D was flat out awful last year...worse than ours.... and while they made some additions they added guys that I don't know if I like for the cost of draft picks and contract price.
They are going to be one of the teams we are battling for a playoff spot (assuming New England doesn't fall apart and we have a shot at the division) so we need them to be not for real.

They have 5 primetime games this year. That's a lot of pressure for a young team. And there's no guarantee that Anderson will be the player he was last year. They could go either way.

Let's explore their schedule this year:
They take on the NFC East. Each of those teams could beat the Browns, and at least the Cowboys and Giants will be favored to do so.
They also play the AFC South. Colts and Jags should definitely beat them, and Houston/Tennessee aren't that far behind. Already, 4 losses.
They play the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals twice. They will probably lose to the Steelers twice and the Ravens/Bengals at least once. 7 losses.
Finally, they play a second place schedule - Broncos and Bills. Both of those could easily be losses, but let's say they split. 8 losses.
I don't see them doing much better or worse than 8-8... but more likely worse than better.

Small chance New England falls apart this year. Their 2008 schedule is the weakest of any team, if you're going by their opponents 2007 record. Granted, some teams improve, but other teams get worse. As much as I hate to say it, they may go 16-0 again if their D doesn't collapse. The Colts, and maybe the Chargers, are their only real threats at this point (all the teams in their division still have some serious question marks, but should be improving this year).

I like the talent the Browns have, but at the same time, Derek Anderson showed a lot of vulnerability down the stretch. It seemed to me that opposing defensive coordinators figured him out. If they did, we'll be seeing Brady Quinn this year, and that $20 million contract Anderson got will be viewed as a big error by Phil Savage.
Phil Savage HAD to sign him.
He was only the 3rd pro bowl QB in franchise history. The fans would have had his head on a platter if he didn't get re-signed.

As of right now. No. They totally blew it down the stretch. Anderson needs to prove himself further.
I think three Monday Night Games says the NFL sees them as an upper level club. They have the makings of a very nice team.
to me alot depends on their draft. kevin smith=playoffs ok they don't pick till day 2, if ray rice somehow falls I think they can be a playoff team. i don't see rice lasting until the 122nd pick by then the premier backs will have been gone and mike hart? steve slaton? guys I wouldn't build a running game around are the best of the rest, maybe forte?
