Jake Long signs as top draft pick with Dolphins

DAVIE, Fla. - Michigan tackle Jake Long is the first pick in the NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins, who signed him to a multiyear contract four days before the start of the draft.

The Dolphins were interested in trading the No. 1 pick, but when no suitors surfaced, they decided to sign Long and avoid a possible holdout. Last year's top pick, JaMarcus Russell, missed all of training camp before signing a $61 million contract with the Oakland Raiders.

I honestly don't think there is a player worthly of a #1 pick in this draft.

I don't hate this draft, I just think the best value is at the mid first round and beyond.

There isn't a bluechipper on the board IMO. Everyone has questionmarks.

This is good news. I don't see a young tackle changing the short-term fortunes of a 1-15 team. The Dolphins are going to be lousy for at least a couple more years.
