The Seattle Seahawks released running back Shaun Alexander on Tuesday, according to NFL.com.
Shaun Alexander has lost a step the past two seasons. The running back's numbers are down considerably from his MVP season in 2005.
The team officially said it is withholding any announcement until it receives the results of a physical Alexander was scheduled to undergo on Tuesday. Before a release, a player normally has an exit physical.
Alexander's agent, Jim Steiner, told The Associated Press Tuesday that "an announcement is pending" about Alexander's future with the Seahawks.
Alexander has been healing from wrist surgery, but he could visit other teams until the wrist has healed. In free agency, Seattle signed Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett to replace him.
