He was a stalwart for Denver, a very good defensive team. Butler was the power-play quarterback, is quite sound defensively and even possesses a slight mean streak. I expect he'll be a more offensively skilled, meaner version of Tallinder.Originally Posted by treYdaWg

Butler is 21, and three-year deals seem to be the norm. By NHL rule, players aren't eligible for unrestricted free agency until the age of 27, so Butler should be Sabres property for a good amount of time.
ahh, so thats what the deal is. We have his rights untill 27 unless we get rid of him? I never really understood how the whole UFA thing actually worked.
Yep. A team has the right to steal Butler away in restricted free agency in a couple years, of course, but the likelihood of that is low.
3 year deals are the max you can sign young players for. 3 years @ 850k. I wouldn't be shocked if hes given the chance to win a spot right out of camp. But likely will be a 1 year stint in the A. He immediately jumps ahead of Funk on the call-up list IMO
