Pirates let game one get away
Published on: 16th April, 2010 by Chris Roy

Portland, ME – A pair of third period goals by the Manchester Monarchs were enough to give them game one of the best-of-seven Atlantic Division semifinal series, 2-1, over the Portland Pirates in front of an intimate crowd at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Luke Adam impresses Dineen in first pro game
Published on: 17th April, 2010 by Mark Edwards

Portland, ME—For about two weeks after the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles were eliminated from the QMJHL playoffs in late March, Buffalo Sabres prospect Luke Adam was hangin’ loose away from the ice. Before he could get too comfortable though, the Sabres and Portland Pirates came calling. Adam now finds himself thrust into the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs for his first taste of professional hockey.

Theme of the day is a simplified game for the Pirates
Published on: 19th April, 2010 by Chris Roy

The theme from the Portland Pirates after practice this morning at Portland Ice Arena is they need to simplify their game, and get more pucks on Monarchs’ goalie Jonathan Bernier.

The Pirates head to the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester tonight for Game 3 of their Atlantic Division semifinal down 2-0 in the best-of-seven series against the Monarchs knowing they need to start scoring if they want to see another game at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Manchester, NH – The Portland Pirates are playing for tomorrow, literally, with their backs against the wall.

Published on: 20th April, 2010 by Chris Roy

    Manchester, NH – It’s over…

Just like that in a matter of days, the Portland Pirates were bounced out of the playoffs after the Manchester Monarchs defeated them, 7-2, in front 2,136 at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Hey wildcat, question for you. Where did Ennis play most of the season? Wing or Center?

When forward Dennis McCauley hits the ice in the fall, he’s surely going to become a quick fan favorite at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Sabres still filling Pirates roster with training camp soon to open
Published on: 28th September, 2010 by Chris Roy

The Portland Pirates are preparing to open training camp this week, the last team in the American Hockey League to do so, and there is still a number of questions that remain with the roster, or lack thereof.

The Pirates will have some talented players this season with the likes of rookies Luke Adam and Corey Tropp, but on paper, the Pirates roster as constructed still has a numerous number of holes, making one question if they can even compete for a playoff spot.

Yet another preseason game cancel by the Pirates
Published on: 29th September, 2010 by Chris Roy

For the second time in less than a month, the Portland Pirates have been forced to cancel a “potential” preseason game this season.

The Pirates announced today that they’ve canceled their only home preseason game, which was to be held at Portland Ice Arena on Saturday, against the Manchester Monarchs.

The reason is due to a lack of players who will be in Portland in time for the game as the Buffalo Sabres, Portland’s NHL parent club, is taking extended looks at several players in camp.

Pirates theme is more grit, more passion
Published on: 1st October, 2010 by Chris Roy

With only a handful of players skating, the Portland Pirates officially “unofficially” opened training camp at the Portland Ice Arena on Friday.

On Wednesday, the Buffalo Sabres sent 12 players to the Pirates, and for those who arrived, they spent most of their time working on skating drills and playing a little two-on-two shinny.

Conboy anxious to get season under way in Portland
Published on: 2nd October, 2010 by Chris Roy

In less than three days after being cut by the Buffalo Sabres, Tim Conboy was finally on the ice for the first time as a Portland Pirate as they held their first official practice at Portland Ice Arena.

Conboy could be just what the doctor ordered for Portland. Players are on their way to Portland, but find out why Enroth might be sticking in Buffalo for the time being and check out Portland's new assistant coach.

Mancari is here now, but not to stay
Published on: 4th October, 2010 by Chris Roy

It’s like being stuck between a rock and a hard place for forward Mark Mancari.

In four of the last five years, Mancari has posted 20 goal seasons; he’s been an AHL All-Star twice and holds the record for the hardest shot (102.8mph), yet he’s stuck in the AHL.
