Pirates bid adieu to 2008 with a victory
Link>>>Portland, ME The power play came through for the Portland Pirates when they needed it most to end 2008 on a positive note with a 2-1 win over the Norfolk Admirals in front of a near sell-out crowd of 6,374 at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Wednesday evening.
At 14:09 of the second period, with the Admirals up 1-0, Portland tied the game on a Mark Mancaris 13th goal of the season.
Going into the game, the Pirates were 4-for-48 with the man advantage, as its become a point of concern for the coaching staff of the Pirates.
"It's pretty obvious that its a big issue for us right now, said Pirates head coach Kevin Dineen. The power play goal wasn't a thing of beauty or a set play, but a lot of effort that made the difference."

Pirates ground the Falcons in Portland
Portland, ME – The Springfield Falcons woes were the Portland Pirates gain as they handled the Falcons, 3-1, before a Sunday crowd of 2,693 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
It was the Pirates first win of 2009 and a win they really needed to remove the sour taste of Saturday night’s game against the Norfolk Admirals.
