Lalime starts; Kaleta returns

ST. LOUIS -- The Sabres are about to start their pregame warm-ups in Scottrade Center, and the goaltender they'll be shooting at first is Patrick Lalime. The backup will be in net against the Blues, giving Ryan Miller a rest.

Lalime has allowed one regulation goal in each of his two starts this month.

Patrick Kaleta will return to the lineup in place of injured Derek Roy (who is listed as day to day, according to coach Lindy Ruff). Chris Butler is also back from injury, but Ruff would not announce who will sit to make room for the defenseman.

Kaleta may be out again with a suspension. Kariya didn't return after that elbow he got from Kaleta.

Kaleta is injured regardless.

ST. LOUIS -- Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta, who returned to the lineup after missing three games, left the 5-3 victory over the Blues with a leg injury. Kaleta crashed hard into the goal post during the first period and played just 6:46.

He was walking with a major limp after the game.

"He may miss some time," coach Lindy Ruff said.

The coach said Drew Stafford was benched for lack of production. The forward hasn't scored in 15 games.

"It’s been a long time since he’s scored," Ruff said. "Sometimes you need to sit one to feel the pain, to say, 'I’ve got to dig in more.' He’s had some opportunities, it just hasn’t quite been good enough."

Yeah, that didn't look too good - when he rammed into the net. Looked like his leg folded at then knee TOO much if that's possible. I bet there was a "pop" noise.

We miss his asshole-ness when he's out. I bet when Kaleta came back to the bench after that elbow to Kariya, Lindy said to him "do NOT change a thing about your game". At least I hope Lindy would say that.
