-From a personal standpoint, I am incredibly bored with sports. The Bills and the NFL? Nothing going on at all -- the Bills are blowing it up, plus we're looking at maybe the weakest FA class ever. The Sabres and the NHL? Not sure how anyone else feels, but I am extremely sick of the regular season right now. How am I supposed to get up for game No. 68 against the Atlanta Thrashers? Come on.
The NHL playoffs are the best thing in sports as far as I am concerned, and this place should kick up more once they begin. Even though I can't imagine the Sabres advancing past the second round, playoff hockey in Buffalo is like no other. You can feel the excitement in the air, and it is something TBS has not yet experienced in its young age.
Other sports? As much as I love baseball and the Yankees, I am in the minority. MLB, NBA, etc. have never been major parts of conversation here. The two Buffalo sports teams are the drivers of this site, and there is simply nothing happening with either.
-Regarding the site design and whatnot, by no fault of the TBS admins, the "upgrades" have not been upgrades. The search function blows, the shoutbox is slow and the idle feature is crap. I miss the old layout. As I said, though, I don't blame TBS one bit for trying to improve. We all expected the site to be even better when the "upgrades" were enacted, but they've disappointed in a big way. They're the Donte Whitner of Web site changes.
-The use of smilies -- and I'm just as guilty as anyone (

) -- should be toned down to an extent. If someone makes a thought-provoking, interesting post or thread, nobody should just reply with a smiley. If you want to use a smiley, fine -- but reply in real thoughts first. Other than that, I think the smilies are one of the best parts of this site. Just use them correctly. Example: If someone posts "Bills sign Cornell Dockery," then "

" would be an appropriate reply (what else is there to add, really?). However, if someone posts an interesting thread that he/she put effort and time into, use a real reply and if you want to throw in a smiley at the end of that, great.
That's pretty much it. Allow me to thank Gus and the rest of the admins for their hard work. TBS, despite the lull, is still my favorite site on the Internet. It is a great place with an excellent group of people.
