the new NYS gold/orange license plates ! Holy shit they're ugly. I know we had a thread about these license plates a while ago, but I just had to reiterate how ugly they are. They look shitty on just about every color car out there - about the only car they look OK on are black ones.
Yeah, they are definitely an eyesore. So what's the deal with these? Do we all have to get one of these ugly pieces of shit the next time our registrations run out, or are they only for new registrations?
Next time you re-register I think you get a new plate.
It will cost extra to keep the same number too.

Ohio has horrible ones. Tacky and ugly. I honestly have seen very few license that look good.

I just got my renewal.
You can keep the white ones (no extra cost), change to yellow ones (extra cost) or even pay more to keep the same number on the yellow plates.
I kept the white ones.

Yeah, that's pretty gay...but at least the colors might match a vehicle or two. On it's own, NYS's aren't that bad (well, mabye...that color is pretty fugly), but put those bad boys on any color of vehicle, and you get horrible contrast. It's bright orange/gold and it doesn't match anything. That's the point I was really trying to make in the OP.Originally Posted by The Common Man
FYI, when I got my new car a couple of months ago, I kept my white NYS plates. The guy at Joe Basil Chevy said just about everyone keeps the old white plates.
This is our new one as of last year. They let the citizens vote on which plate they wanted and they chose this one. I like our old ones better:

Wow that's sharp. Why couldn't NYS do some sort of red, white, and blue thing...maybe with the stars and stripes in it ??? I think if you are registering a car for the first time you have to get them and they aren't making the white ones anymore, so eventually everyone will probably be forced into it.

seems like a cash grab by Albany. I heard one of the reasons for going to a new plate was to have a more visible plate for coppers to see em. Seems like bullshit to me. The previous plates were pretty ugly too. I'm a conservative person and I liked the one previous to plate that is being replaced.
Didn't they flat out say that it was a cash grab when they announced it? The backlash is the only thing that kept them from being mandatory.
