Thread: Stimulus Plan To Help Fund A Metro Rail Expansion?

Well why not give it a try, it wouldnt effect the way i travel throughout the city, but maybe for thousands of others up to UB/the airport.

Could the proposed Federal economic stimulus package lead to expansion of the light rail system? Yes, if some Buffalo Common Council members have their say. This afternoon the Common Council will consider a resolution that calls on the NFTA and WNY's congressional delegation to apply for stimulus money to extend light rail. The Buffalo News' Brian Meyer has the quote of the day from Council President David A. Franczyk:

"I think it would be a perfect use of federal stimulus money," said Franczyk. "People realize that infrastructure is important."

Sam Hoyt is on board:

Common Council members aren't alone in their push to extend Metro Rail. State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt, a Buffalo Democrat, has long advocated a public transit extension that would link Buffalo to the North Campus. At a hearing sponsored by federal lawmakers last summer, Hoyt underscored the benefits of advancing such a project. He also voiced support for a high-speed rail line that would link New York City and Toronto with Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

I would be all for this if it happens. ( which it wont for awhile ).

What a waste of cash. The only time you get traffic in Buffalo is:
1. During a snowstorm, a bad one.
2. During a Bills game
3. On the Peace Bridge.

It takes no time to go through Buffalo at all.

During a snow storm i'd rather take the rail, even though it'll never go to south buffalo haha.

I think this is a great idea to get downtown/the waterfront/ more people to come. Due to the economy and price of gas the rail riders have gone up a lot, and with this stimulus money its a great way to get it built to correct the wrongs the generation before us did.

True, people now flock to the Bronx because of the subway.

I only wish the subway went all the way out to the Hamptons.

We need a Subway system linking the Heart of Downtown to the Galleria Mall and the Airport.

Just take out the stops in the hood so gangsters dont infiltrate the 'burbs and make them look like a shit hole, too.

The airport? How often does the average Buffalonian fly per year?

out to the airport to get people that are only here for a day or a night to go downtown, or it would allow people to stay downtown and get to the airport easily.. they have to extend the metro rail, they won't though or at least not for 5-10 years at best

Well the metro rail wont go everywhere, people will still go and park there as well.

I personally hate public transportation. I used to take the bus all the time when i'd go out downtown because it was easier than parking and driving drunk... but its also time consuming, and gross... nasty hobos with goiters and sore dragging 3 garbage bags of god knows what on the bus...

Give me a cab or a towncar any day of the week...
