Anybody have it? Anybody ever upgrade and lose all their data (like contacts)? Is there any chance anyone knows how to recover it?
I figure it's a lost cause but I may as well try.

If you can sync your phone with your computer you can do that and get them back on if you have them saved to your computer

I don't think I do. I don't use it for email (other than gmail every once in a while), so I never bother saving them into outlook. It's all just phone numbers, really.
